Research at the Edge

Question: Must researchers stop at state borders when nature doesn’t?
Theme: When frontier-guards become conservationists—or vice-versa

Along the former Iron Curtain, a strip of high biodiversity developed in the shadow of the Cold War. To make sure this peculiar pool doesn’t get lost through the loosening of borders, the European Union calls for a “Green Belt” that would unite Eastern and Western politicians, biologists and environmentalists. But what happens when Croatian birds nest in Serbia?
This open-air installation invites you to observe biologists’ fieldwork and to learn from them what it means to cooperate across borders.
